In case you were wondering what free range chickens means to us, it means they may go anywhere they please. Including on the cars, under the cars, in the garage, in the flowers, in the garden…and anywhere else they end up. So, here’s another visual of our pesty pest eater ladies taking full advantage of being free on the range 🙂
Chicken butt in the garage…Looks like we’re playing hide and seek…
They love these Hostas!
Found another one…
Chickens getting up to the house to investigate our demo work

They ate all the petals off my lilies..:(
Helping with weeds
Eating all the seeds Joe just planted 😉
Helping my mother-in-law pull weeds out
They found the dirt under the corn crib!!
They found the creek!
Someone wasn’t ready for bed. Thanks Basil for finding her!
Invading the wood piles!
Keeping an eye on Joe while working on the truck
Time for a ride
Gotta get up high to see whats happening!
This is how you get to the sunflowers..duh

We have the same ‘problem’ with our free-ranging chickens, including them crossing the blacktop road between our house and barn. It’s a busy road, and I’ve lost one hen due to her not staying away from it. 😦 Love your pics, though. Your chickens are beautiful. 🙂

Thank you! I saw your post about your hen 😦 I drive by a house where their chickens are foraging feet away from the road and I always worry about them getting hit . Thankfully our coop is on the far end of our property and they have stayed away from our 3 car a day road 🙂

Free range is great, but they do tend to dig up and eat the flowers. Mom just gave up on having a flower bed when we had chickens. Nothing better than their eggs though. Do yours lay white or brown eggs? Some people say they can’t tell the difference, but I can. The brown ones are the best.

Yes they are pesty and have their choice of flowers to destroy unfortunately. But they are worth it. Ours all lay different varieties of brown. In the summer I certainly taste the difference, not as much in the winter due to the lack of foraging they do.
